MVP stands for meditation, visualization and prayer, done for roughly 45 minutes early each morning, at least five days a week. Meditation is often breath-based (inhale peace, exhale fear) or a body scan where you notice a physical tension, identify the emotion behind it, and breathe into it to release the suppressed feeling. Visualization uses Sharma's 'four beautiful projects' idea: you spend a few minutes seeing your quarterly projects as already completed beautifully. Prayer can be religious or 'scientific' gratitude and intention. The mechanism is that daily repetition reprograms all four interior empires — mindset, heart set, health set and soul set — building emotional fluency the way a chess master builds mastery through practice.
Origin
Sharma developed MVP as part of the 5am Club methodology; for the past eight or nine months he has run it at 4am from an old farmhouse in Tuscany, meditating, visualizing and praying for 45 minutes.
Core principles
- 01You cannot change what you refuse to acknowledge
- 02Mindset without heart set is an empty victory
- 03Bringing a shadow into sunlight starts to dissolve it
- 04Reprogramming happens through daily repetition, not intensity
How to run it
- 1
Meditate on the breath
Spend about 20 minutes on breathing meditation, pairing each breath with an intention such as inhale peace, exhale fear.
Pro tip Rotate intentions: inhale generosity exhale scarcity, inhale humility exhale ego.
- 2
Run a body scan
Scan the body and notice tension. Name the emotion it represents, for example a tight solar plexus as fear, then breathe into it to release it.
Pro tip Bringing a suppressed emotion into awareness is like bringing a shadow into sunlight; it starts to dissolve.
- 3
Visualize four beautiful projects
Spend a few minutes seeing your four quarterly projects as if already done beautifully, sitting inside that future image.
Pro tip Set exactly four beautiful projects per quarter so the visualization stays focused.
- 4
Pray or practice scientific gratitude
Close by praying for family, strength and the world, or if non-religious, practice evidence-based gratitude and intention.
In the wild
During a body scan on his book tour, Sharma noticed a contraction in his solar plexus. Rather than ignore it, he identified it as fear about how a year of obsessive work on his new book would be received. By acknowledging and breathing into the contraction, the suppressed emotion began to move through him rather than silently driving his behavior for the day.
→ The named fear lost its grip, letting him stay present and creative under high expectations.
Common mistakes
Treating mindset as everything
Focusing only on positive thinking while ignoring emotions, body and spirit leaves the practice shallow. Sharma calls mindset without heart set an empty victory.
Skipping days waiting for the perfect session
The reprogramming comes from consistency; occasional intense sessions do not build the fluency that daily repetition does.
Is it for you?
Best for
Ambitious people who want more calm power and creativity without waiting for external success to feel settled.
Not ideal for
Anyone looking for a quick tactical hack rather than a sustained daily practice.
