The Precautionary Principle inverts the legal default of innocent-until-proven-guilty when applied to what you put in or on your body. Because nutrition science leans on weak observational data and long-term randomized trials are rarely feasible, harm is often confirmed only after decades of exposure, as with man-made trans fats, leaded gasoline, and benzene in sunscreen. Rather than adopting a novel food or compound on the assumption it is safe, you treat it as guilty until proven innocent: you ask how long it has been in the human diet, whether it is whole-food derived or industrially processed, and whether long-term safety data exists.
