Sutherland uses it as an audit tool for services dominated by reductionist metrics like speed and punctuality. Because there are no SI-derived units for enjoyment, regret or fairness, these values get systematically under-optimized. The method is to first surface which measurable metrics are being maximized, then re-score the same experience against the five SCARF dimensions to reveal invisible pain points, then rank cheap psychological interventions that the metric-driven view would never fund. The payoff is usually disproportionate: putting wifi on a train can matter more to a business traveler than shaving minutes off the journey.
