Anderson distills what women want into three distinct things: status, feeling desired, and having fun. Status is not primarily money or a nice car; it is ambition, drive and a trajectory a woman wants to be part of, which is why medical students and struggling-but-talented artists get treated as their future selves. Desire is the romantic and physical dimension: expressing that you are attracted to her through flirting and touch. Fun is playfulness and light-heartedness. The model's power is diagnostic: if a man delivers two but omits one, attraction fails in a predictable way. High status plus fun without expressed desire makes him an impressive guy she won't sleep with. Fun plus desire without status makes him entertaining in the moment but not long-term potential. All three, delivered distinctly, is what produces romantic interest and choice.
Origin
Extracted from Blaine Anderson's coaching framework on female attraction, presented on Modern Wisdom.
Core principles
- 01Women want status, to feel desired, and to have fun
- 02Missing any one of the three removes you as a romantic partner
- 03Status is about trajectory and ambition, not just money
- 04Desire is the romantic and physical signal men most often omit
How to run it
- 1
Signal status through trajectory
Show ambition, drive and where you are heading. Talk about your trajectory, because she cares more about your direction than your current position.
Pro tip Frame even a mediocre job around its purpose and your goals.
Watch out Status is not defined by a big paycheck or flashy possessions.
- 2
Express desire
Communicate romantic and physical interest through flirting, physical touch and clear intent so she feels desired.
Pro tip Being an awesome, high-status guy she never feels wanted by kills romantic interest.
Watch out Omitting the desire signal leaves you as a friend, not a partner.
- 3
Create fun
Be playful, light-hearted and flirty so she enjoys her time with you and associates good feelings with you.
Pro tip Give her an emotional spike, something outside what she was already feeling.
- 4
Diagnose the missing third
When attraction isn't forming, identify which of status, desire or fun you are failing to deliver and build it deliberately.
Pro tip The failure mode is predictable from which element is absent.
In the wild
Anderson describes a man who is high status and fun but never appropriately expresses desire or the romantic side. The woman thinks he's an awesome, compelling guy, but she is not romantically interested and won't want to sleep with him. The missing 'desire' third quietly caps the relationship at friendship.
→ Adding explicit desire, flirting and touch converts an admired-but-platonic dynamic into a romantic one.
Common mistakes
Delivering only two of the three
Status and fun without desire makes you a friend; fun and desire without status makes you a fling with no long-term potential.
Equating status with money
Men over-index on paycheck and possessions when status is really ambition, drive and a trajectory she wants to join.
Is it for you?
Best for
Men who are likeable or successful but keep landing in the friend zone or feeling no chemistry.
Not ideal for
Men who haven't yet built any real life or interests to signal status from.
