Wisdom as causal control defines wisdom as both the ability and propensity to understand a complex situation and produce beneficial outcomes on average. The decision-maker considers the self, other people, and the wider world, traces how possible actions may affect the system, and chooses the action with the strongest expected result. The phrase on average is load-bearing because life is probabilistic: even excellent poker play loses individual hands. This model therefore evaluates the quality of causal understanding and repeated outcomes rather than demanding certainty. It complements self-consistency by adding external consequence to internal alignment. A person can mean well and act consistently yet still lack wisdom if their model repeatedly causes avoidable harm.

A strong poker decision can lose because the game is probabilistic. Instead of labeling the move unwise from one loss, evaluate whether that decision produces better results on average across repeated comparable situations.
