Because HRV responses are highly individual, Lagos has people collect their own data to define their personal algorithm. You measure HRV consistently, then look at what differs between a high day and a low day, for example a 65 on Sunday versus a 42 on Tuesday. Over time you correlate variables such as alcohol, specific running distances, sleep, conflict and late nights against your readings, learning what uniquely amplifies or drains you; running three miles may activate one person's parasympathetic system beautifully while too many days of it lowers HRV. A useful diagnostic is asking what share of the week you spend in your top 25% of HRV: if your best days are the weekend but you perform and decide Monday to Friday, that is a problem. HRV also serves as a reliable test of whether any intervention actually works on you.

How to run it

Measure consistently
Track HRV in a low-noise way, ideally nocturnally or immediately on waking, using a reliable device, so readings are comparable across days.
Pro tip Nocturnal HRV is fairly reliable because there is less movement and fewer variables at night.
Watch out Movement, foot twitches, late eating, drinking or a restless night will skew readings; an abnormal number usually means a behavior or a sensor issue, not cause for panic.

Log variables around high and low days
Note what was happening on your highest and lowest HRV days: alcohol, sleep, exercise type and distance, conflicts, timing.

Define your personal algorithm
Correlate the variables against your HRV to learn what amplifies and what detracts from your elite self, recognizing that this differs from everyone else's.
Pro tip The same input, like alcohol or a three-mile run, can affect you completely differently from your neighbor.

Audit your best-day distribution
Ask how many days a week you land in your top 25% of HRV, and whether those days line up with when you actually need to perform.
Pro tip If your best days are weekends but you compete and decide on weekdays, restructure to move your peak state into the days that matter.
In the wild
One client's low HRV baffled Lagos for three sessions of question after question, until she uncovered they were drinking 19 cups of coffee a day. Removing that hidden variable was the key to their calibration.

Comparing your HRV to others
Everyone has their own range; comparing your number to a pro athlete's 200s is pointless. Compete only against your own top end.
